WE Health Clinic provides in-clinic suction abortions for individuals choosing to terminate a pregnancy.
An in-clinic abortion is performed by a licensed physician. The procedure is begun by opening (dilating) the cervix so that a flexible straw-like tube, called a cannula, can be inserted into the uterus. The contents of the uterus are then removed using gentle suction. Suction abortion is a safe, effective and common medical procedure.
WE Health Clinic provides in-clinic abortions up to 15.6 weeks of pregnancy.
If you are more than 15.6 weeks pregnant, please call for information on other clinics in Minnesota where you may still obtain an abortion.
In-clinic suction abortion appointments last between 4 and 7 hours. During your appointment you will have:
- Lab work.
- An ultrasound.
- A nurse health assessment.
- A meeting with a patient educator to discuss your decision.
- An in-clinic suction abortion procedure. The procedure itself lasts around 10 to 15 minutes. After the procedure, you will rest for 20 to 30 minutes under the supervision of a nurse to ensure you are feeling well before you leave.
